November 19th, 12-2:30 pm
In this workshop you will learn traditional methods of mending, patching, and darning to repair weathered clothing and give your wardrobe new life. Gathering inspiration from traditional techniques of mending like Japanese Sashiko and Boro, we will explore ways to both add function and visual interest to your clothing through slow, meditative craft. We will also discuss the ideas and applications of Slow Craft and Slow Fashion and how you can apply them to your life and your wardrobe. During the workshop you will learn and practice the basics of Sashiko stitching and then bring those skills to repairing a garment and learn the basic techniques needed to continue your mending work at home.
Needles, thread, pins, scissors, some scrap fabric etc. will be provided, but please bring a garment to mend and any fabric you’d like to use for patches!
